Not too much going on other than recuperating and trying to get used to my new life. The other day I had a childhood favorite Chef Boy Ar Dee spaghetti for lunch under the theory of matching what goes in with what comes out. Nurses have come out on Thursday and this morning. Both have been very nice. Corinne, from Thursday, is our main nurse although we liked Jill today more but we're not in her territory. On Monday, the colostomy nurse comes out and on Tuesday we hope to see Ahvay, the HUP colostomy nurse. All during my stay at HUP, they kept telling us how Ahvay, the only colostomy nurse in all of HUP (others do have experience), would give us lots of info but then we found out she was on vacation this past week.
Linda has been doing a great job replacing the dressings on my wounds and other tasks. Nurse supervision has been invaluable. This morning I asked her if I could give her anything else for her birthday.
And speaking of Linda, 2 years ago she was at a conference at West Point (I accompanied her as a tourist) for non-profit leaders, military leaders, and corporate heads. One of the particpants was General Martin Dempsey, the newly appointed Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In Dempsey's introductory remarks he mentioned special places, specifically West Point and Yankee Stadium. When Linda began her introductory remarks, she turned to Dempsey and said something like, "Obviously, you meant to say Fenway Park." Pretty good, teasing a top general, especially when Mel Brooks once spoke about generals being so tough, they'll rip your nose off.
